New York Yankees Expecting Alex Rodriguez, C.C. Sabathia Back This Week
The New York Yankees will be getting some reinforcements later this week in the form of Alex Rodriguez and C.C. Sabathia.
The New York Yankees have been crushed by injuries this season. They have had multiple players miss games because of injuries, even if they were not placed on the disabled list they were out for multiple days. In the last two weeks, the Yankees have had to use the DL though, as Alex Rodriguez went on first and was then joined by C.C. Sabathia and Luis Severino.

While Severino was just added this past weekend and will be out a couple of weeks, the Yankees are expecting their veterans to return to the lineup during the weekend series against the Oakland Athletics.
In reference to Rodriguez, manager Joe Girardi said, “He’ll continue to run and take BP and hopefully he’ll be ready to go (on Thursday).” Rodriguez has been on the DL since May 4th with a strained right hamstring. Prior to that he was dealing with left oblique soreness, but that injury did not require a DL stint, just a couple of days of rest out of the lineup.
Rodriguez was on the field taking batting practice with his teammates on Monday prior to their series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is probably healthy enough to return to the field now, but he is not eligible to come off the DL until Thursday. He should be in the lineup in his regular spot as the DH unless there is a setback between then and now.

Rodriguez was beginning to show signs of life at the plate prior to the injury, getting a hit in four of six games, raising his batting average 62 points. Most encouraging was that he began showing some power, as he hit three doubles and three home runs.
Sabathai is also expected to return from the DL the first day that he is eligible. Sabathia has been on the DL since May 6th with a groin injury, but is slated to start against the Oakland Athletics according to Girardi.
As the case was with Rodriguez, Sabathia also headed to the DL with some positive momentum. In his final start before going on the DL, against the Baltimore Orioles, Sabathia had an outstanding night with seven shutout innings.
It was a bit of redemption on a number of levels for Sabathia. Not only had he struggled against the Orioles previously, especially at Camden Yards, Baltimore is where his off the field issues came into light last season. With all that weighing on his shoulders, it was probably a little extra special for Sabathia to perform the way he did in that game.
