Brooklyn Nets: 5 Point Guard Options This Summer
Brandon Jennings
Brandon Jennings was a pretty durable player during his NBA career before an Achilles’ injury in the 2014-15 season derailed him recently. Jennings returned to the court this past season, but there was clearly some rust. In addition to that, Jennings found himself in a new role, as the Detroit Pistons had a new leading point guard in Reggie Jackson.
Jennings was professional about the role change, but was then traded to the Orlando Magic. There his value cratered, as the Magic are in the middle of a youth movement, something Jennings didn’t fit into. Scott Skiles being the head coach didn’t help either, as the two clashed at times the last time they worked together with the Milwaukee Bucks.
With his value rather low, Jennings could be someone the Nets target if their other options fall through. He will probably not be their top option, but should be considered. He averaged a modest 6.9 points, 3.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds in 18.1 minutes per game, which isn’t great but is solid for a player that came off the bench for a majority of the games he played in.
Jennings is only 26 years-old currently, so he is young enough to invest in still. But, with how low his value currently is, the Nets could possibly get Jennings on a one-year deal so that he could build his value back up and hit the market again next season.
He was thriving with Stan Van Gundy before the Achilles’ injury, as he looked like a legitimate point guard of the future with his metrics all heading in the right direction; could the Nets and Atkinson get him back on track?
