New York Giants 2016 NFL Draft Grades
Overall Draft Grade
Things got off to a rough start for Jerry Reese in the early going, as the Eli Apple pick was unanimously viewed as a reach and panic pick of sorts. Reese stuck to his guns, almost annoyingly, about not trading his picks as 25 teams took part in a trade on draft night and the Giants were not one of them.
Apple will be the pick that people look at the most, but if you are going to ridicule that one, credit needs to be given when it is due as well. For the remainder of the draft, Reese hit on needs while getting value as well. After the Apple pick, Reese had a very strong draft.
The Giants filled a number of needs with their next five picks, as Reese had a very strong Day 3. The later rounds of the draft is where you look for players that may not necessarily be the most talented available, but fit into your scheme and fill a need. That is exactly what the last three picks did, as Reese found a lot of value at positions of need.
Despite getting off to a rocky start, Reese rebounded well. While no offensive or defensive lineman being selected will draw the ire of some people, it is tough to say that Reese bombed the draft. He found talent that will help almost immediately throughout the three days, with some high upside players.
The Giants drafts have been much stronger in recent seasons, and this one has the looks of continuing that trend. Reese better hope that it does at least, as this could very well be his last draft as general manager of the Giants if things do not pan out on the field as they look to be on paper.

There are still some concerns with the Giants roster, but they could try and fill those needs as veterans are released throughout the summer with drafted players and undrafted free agents joining practices in the coming weeks.
