Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony has missed the postseason for the third straight season after making it the first 10 years of his career. It is something that does not sit well with him, and he’s been open about his willingness to stay with the Knicks but wants to see improvement. He did everything he could this season to end the playoff drought but it was not enough.

Anthony finished with his third fewest points per game average in his career with 21.8, but he improved in other areas. He put up his second highest rebounds per game average at 7.7 per game and handed out a career-high 4.2 assists per game. He led the Knicks in all three categories, a feat not easily accomplished even on the worst of teams.

The season took a turn for the worst when Anthony sprained his ankle when stepping in a referee. That, coinciding with his knee pain coming back, put the Knicks in a rut they were never able to get out of. Overall, Anthony was relatively healthy this season as he played in 72 games. But, the knee was clearly bothering him at points during the season as his shot was not there, as he made only 43.3 percent of his shots, the fourth lowest mark of his career.

It was encouraging to see Anthony change and adapt his game this season to get his teammates more involved. But could we see him doing that for a different team next season? If the Knicks do not improve the roster or find a capable head coach, Anthony could request a trade, which is something that would change the course of the franchise.
