Arron Afflalo

Arron Afflalo was brought in expecting to be the sidekick to Carmelo Anthony scoring the ball. At times he was able to do that, but it is fair to say that Afflalo fell short of expectations the Knicks and their fans had when he signed a two-year deal with the team last offseason.

Afflalo averaged 12.8 points per game to go with 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists, solid but not spectacular numbers. They were well short of what the Knicks were hoping for, as Afflalo would disappear at times during the game and offered very little consistently outside of his scoring.

There was also the weird situation between Afflalo and interim head coach Kurt Rambis. Rambis decided to bring Afflalo off the bench once he returned from injury, inserting Sasha Vujacic into the starting lineup. It became a permanent situation, as Afflalo came off the bench 14 of the final 15 games of the season. It was something that Rambis said was discussed, but Afflalo said was not.

It made for an awkward situation, as Afflalo was clearly off his game as the season wound down. With a player option for the 2016-17 season, his decision will have a big impact on how the Knicks approach this offseason.

More than likely Afflalo will opt out, as he sees himself still as a premier guard. The Knicks clearly do not see him like that, and would rather put that $8 million towards someone else, as this relationship will more than likely only last one season.
