Jerian Grant

The rookie point guard from Notre Dame had an up-and-down rookie season. He was not always in the Knicks’ rotation, as the Knicks frustratingly opted to give minutes to veterans more often than not even when the season was slipping away. But, when given a chance, Grant showcased his talents.

Grant made six starts to end the season, and the results were solid overall. He averaged 14.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists in those six starts as he injected some much needed energy and athleticism into the starting unit. He was also able to get his shooting percentage up, as he made 49.3 percent overall and 36.8 percent from the three-point line, much improved over his season totals of 39.4 and 22 percent respectively.

Grant’s shining moment came against the Boston Celtics in the game that Carmelo Anthony sprained his ankle stepping on the ref in. He helped get the Knicks a big victory, scoring 16 points with eight assists, both career highs at the time. He would set a new career-high in points the second to last game of the season, but the eight assists are still the most he had in a game in his young career.

Grant should be given a shot at extended playing time next season, as the Knicks need to see if Grant is capable of being a starting caliber point guard in the NBA, or just merely a rotation player.
