New York Knicks: 30 Greatest Players of All-Time
By Nick Ziegler
23.) PF/C Bob McAdoo
It wasn’t an extended stay in New York for center Bob McAdoo, but he left his mark on the Knicks as one of the best players in franchise history. In December of 1976, the Knicks acquired McAdoo from the Buffalo Braves along with Tom McMillen for John Gianelli and cash. After being traded during the season to New York, McAdoo went on to average 26.7 points and 12.7 rebounds per game in a little more than half a season.
McAdoo only played one full season for the Knicks in the 1977-78 season, as he was selected to his second All-Star team as a member of the Knicks. McAdoo was traded to the rival Boston Celtics for a lot the year after, as the Knicks got back Tom Barker and three first round picks, which ended up being Bill Cartwright, Larry Demic, and Sly Williams.
In three seasons with the Knicks, McAdoo averaged 26.7 points per game, 12.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. As a great scorer in the NBA, McAdoo is the Knicks’ franchise leader in points per game and is also fifth in franchise history in rebounds per game. If McAdoo had been with the Knicks for a longer period, he would have been much higher on the list, but only one full season hurts his impact on the franchise.
