The New York Knicks have a pivotal coaching decision to make and their star player Carmelo Anthony wants to have input in the decision.

It is not a new thing in the NBA player to have a say in who the next coach will be as star players have the power to get who they want in charge, and also can get them fired.

“I would love to have some type of input when it comes to that,” Anthony said to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News. “I think you have to. I think you have to have some kind of input or dialogue or whatever word you want to use. I think you have to have that. At this point, it has to be some type of connection, some type of communication.”

Anthony knows that his prime years to win a title are coming to an end soon and the next few seasons may be his best chance to win a title as the main guy on a team, but he will need a good coach to help the Knicks make the playoffs first.

Kurt Rambis has an 8-17 record as the head coach of the Knicks, which doesn’t really impress many besides Phil Jackson who seems to want to make him the coach of the Knicks for next season.

I grew up playing basketball a certain way and it’s very consistent with what Phil believes and thinks,” Rambis said to Bondy. “So I don’t consider myself a puppet of his. It’s just a mindset of how we think the game should be played.

“It would be fantastic (to get the full-time coaching job),” he added to Bondy. “I want to be a head coach in this league. This is a great franchise, it’s a terrific city. Fan base. It would be a thrill beyond thrills in order to take this situation from where it was when we all first came here and turn it into a situation where it’s extremely promising and we have a chance to get in the playoffs and do well in the playoffs. And get this city and this organization a potential championship. That’s a goal and that would be a tremendous thrill.”

The Knicks are still certainly in a rebuilding process, and Rambis believes that the team is heading in the right direction.

“A lot of it will be determined with where we move with players, what happens with players. I’ve looked at last year as Year 0. This is kind of Year 1,” Rambis said Bondy. “We knew it was going to be a process in trying to get the pieces that we wanted in order to move forward. But more than that, it’s about getting guys to have an understanding of how to play together. And what’s very hopeful to me is that they can be and they have demonstrated that they can execute what we want them to do on both ends. They can do it fantastically, they just can’t sustain it.”

Many fans don’t like when star players have an input in who the head coach of a team will be, but in the case of Kurt Rambis, fans are certainly behind wanting Anthony to have a say in the matter. Rambis’ resume is very unimpressive and the fans of the Knicks deserve a better coach next season, and hopefully, Anthony will be able to convince Jackson of that.
