The New York Yankees made their second round of cuts on Saturday as they move one step closer to setting their 25-man roster for the regular season.

The New York Yankees had their first round of Spring Training cuts last week, which was headlined by top prospects such as outfielder Aaron Judge, shortstop Jorge Mateo and starting pitcher James Kaprielian. They made their second round of cuts Saturday afternoon following their 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves. While not as many players were sent packing this time, as 17 players were re-assigned in the first round of cuts, multiple people have their chances of making the Yankees’ opening day roster ended on Saturday.

All in all, seven players were re-assigned to minor league camp this weekend. The Yankees pretty much have their roster set, as their lineup and bench seem to be ready to go and the starting rotation already has too many options to choose from. The only area that you may see a surprising name or two at is in the bullpen, but outside of that things are pretty much set in stone for the Yankees heading into the regular season, barring injuries.

Of the seven people that were cut, four of them were pitchers and three were position players. Some of the names will be familiar, as a couple of the players have spent time in the major leagues with other teams in recent seasons.

The most recognizable name is probably right-handed pitcher Vinnie Pestano. Pestano began his career with the Cleveland Indians, playing parts of five seasons with them. He then moved on to the Anaheim Angels for parts of two seasons, appearing in a total of 223 games and registering an impressive ERA of 2.98. It was a bit of a surprise to see Pestano cut from the major league camp, as the middle relief for the Yankees is the least settled area on the roster right now.

Joining Pestano as pitchers cut are right handed pitchers Tyler Cloyd, who pitched last season in Korea, and 25-year old Mark Montgomery, who has been a Yankees farmhand since being selected in the 2011 MLB Draft. Left-handed Richard Bleier was the fourth pitcher to be cut. The 29-year old has yet to reach the major leagues and his chances of making them are diminishing as the days go on.

The three hitters who were released were outfielder Ben Gamel and infielders Jonathan Diaz and Donovan Solano. Diaz was in a battle with prospect Rob Refsnyder for the last spot on the 25-man roster, but it looks like Refsnyder will come away with the spot. Solano was not given much of a chance in Spring Training, as he appeared in only one game after spending the last four seasons with the Miami Marlins.
