The New York Knicks had a rough outing against the Portland Trail Blazers Tuesday. Check out some highlights, photo gallery and recap from the game.

It was another long night for the New York Knicks on Tuesday, getting blown out by the visiting Portland Trail Blazers at Madison Square Garden 104-85. The Knicks were able to keep it competitive throughout most of the first half, but fell apart in the second half once again. It has become a bad trend for the Knicks, as they fail to make adjustments coming out of halftime, while other teams change their game plan and pick them apart.

With a score like that, there was very few highlights for the Knicks on the night. But, in the early going the Knicks did get a spark from shooting guard Arron Afflalo, who was returning from a one game absence. He was able to suit up tonight against one of his former teams, scoring 13 points with six rebounds in the game. He was able to get off to a hot start, setting the tone with four early points.

Along with Afflalo, the Knicks got a strong opening quarter from Carmelo Anthony. Anthony scored seven points in the first quarter, helping the Knicks keep the game close as they were trailing 27-25 at the end of the first quarter.

The Knicks would actually take the lead in the second quarter, as their bench unit got off to a hot start. A 7-2 run early in the second quarter got the Knicks the lead back. Derrick Williams scored the first basket of the streak, which was followed by a three-pointer from big man Kyle O’Quinn. The last basket of the run was nailed by Afflalo, as the Knicks went back on top 36-33.

That was about the end of all the highlights for the Knicks, as the Trail Blazers eventually got the lead back and just lengthened it as the game went on. After the Knicks took that three point lead, the Trail Blazers would end the second quarter on an extended 25-14 run.

Things would only get worse in the second half, as the Knicks had no answer for the Blazers dynamic backcourt, Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum. Lillard started the decimation of the Knicks in the second quarter, when he scored 14 points in the final 4:24 of the quarter.

Lillard finished with a game-high 30 points, making another four three-pointers and all 10 of his free throws. He also added four rebounds and six assists in only 32 minutes on the court. It is the eighth time in the last nine games that Lillard has scored at least 30 points in, as he has been rolling in recent weeks for the Blazers. His backcourt mate in McCollum added 25 of his own.

As if the embarrassment wasn’t enough for the Knicks on the scoreboard for the night, Anthony added to it. During a dead ball, Anthony attempted to dunk the ball, and was stuffed by the rim. It was basically the epitome of the Knicks tonight and for the season; even the easiest of tasks have been extremely difficult to execute.

The loudest cheer on the night for the Knicks arguably came when the crowd was shown celebrity row. Taking in the game tonight was Knicks’ great Earl Monroe, who was cheered loudly when shown.

There was very little else to cheer for if you were a Knicks fan, as the Trail Blazers kept the crowd quiet a majority of the night. The most vocal they got outside of cheering for Monroe was chanting for Jimmer Fredette late in the fourth quarter when the game was already out of hand, as the fans wanted to see him take the floor. He got in the last three minutes of the game, going 4-of-5 from the foul line.

That could be Fredette’s last appearance with the Knicks, as his 10-day contract is set to expire. There hasn’t been very many positives talked about Fredette’ as Kurt Rambis has instead focused on the negatives to Fredette’s game, making it seem like he will not receive a second 10-day contract from the team. If he is not retained, the Knicks could look at Ray McCallum or Ty Lawson, two players recently waived by the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets.
