New York Jets: 5 Most Important Free Agents
By Nick Ziegler
– Chris Ivory
Another one of the key free agents for the Jets is their other running back, Chris Ivory. After a few injury-plagued seasons in New Orleans, the Jets were able to acquire Ivory for a fourth-round pick, and he has been able to stay much healthier in New York.
Ivory has seen his workload increase in every year with the Jets, as he totaled 182 carries, 198 carries, and then 247 carries last season with the Jets. Last season was certainly a career-year for Ivory, as he totaled 1,070 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, and a solid 4.3 yards per carry average. In three seasons with the Jets, Ivory totaled 2,724 rushing yards, as he was certainly worth the fourth-round pick they gave up to acquire him.
Ivory was the leading rusher in the AFC and finished fifth in the NFL in rushing, as he made it to his first Pro Bowl this season. Despite being the leading rusher in the AFC, there is some uncertainty about Ivory’s status with the Jets in the upcoming season. Ivory will be one of the most-sought-after free agent running backs this season, which may take him out of the Jets’ price range.
It will be interesting to see how much the Jets value their Pro Bowl running back.
