Brooklyn Nets: Four Potential Coaching Candidates
Tom Thibodeau
NBA Coaching Record: 394-255 (.647)
The Coach of the Year in 2010-11, Thibs is easily the best coach available. With that being said, many other teams will be after him, possibly including the crosstown rivals, New York Knicks. There have been reports that Thibs is interested in New York and wants to coach the Knicks, but the Knicks’ triangle offense philosophy might rule him out from being a serious candidate there. If that’s the case, the Nets should make a strong push and should overpay, if necessary, to bring him aboard.
In five great seasons with the Chicago Bulls, Thibodeau was able to bring out every ounce of effort from within his roster and turned the Bulls back into an elite Eastern Conference team. With the current Nets roster, it’s not crazy to expect them to win at least 35 games under Thibodeau. If he can extract the best product out of the lineup, then the Nets wouldn’t be all that bad. Having a coach who can do this, in addition to emphasizing defense, points to someone who can be a fixture on the bench for years to come. Thibs is the only coach on the market who fans can expect will keep this team competitive while the team tries to dig itself out of the hole Billy King dug them into.
