New York Giants Rumors: Could Jason Pierre-Paul played his last snap with the Giants and be moving on as a free agent this offseason?

The New York Giants defense was a sieve throughout most of the 2015 season. A big reason for that was because they were unable to generate anything resembling a consistent pass rush, as Robert Ayers was the only player to make an impact getting after the quarterback.

A reason for the struggle was not having their best defensive lineman, Jason Pierre-Paul, in the lineup for a majority of the season. Pierre-Paul ruined his right hand in a Fourth of July fireworks incident, which delayed him showing up to play with the Giants. Pierre-Paul was able to play in only half of the season, but once he returned it was clear he was not the same player he was before the injury.

It was not for a lack of trying, as Pierre-Paul was extremely disruptive, showcasing the same ability to get into the backfield and cause problems for opposing offenses. The problem for him was an inability to finish the play.

With only one fully functioning in, as his right hand was in a huge club like cast, Pierre-Paul struggled to wrap up and finish off plays with a tackle. He was in position to make the play, but just couldn’t close the deal.

While Pierre-Paul has undergone more surgeries to try and improve the functionality of his hand, there is no guarantee that Pierre-Paul will ever be the player he was before destroying his hand. After sending out a picture of an x-ray of his injured hand, it would surprise no one if he was never able to play like he did before the injury.

But, with how well he did perform, a team is bound to give Pierre-Paul a chance in 2016. Just don’t expect that team to be the Giants. According to USA Today’s Kristian Dyer, a source said that all signs are pointing to Pierre-Paul being allowed to test the free agent market and that he will not be returning to the Giants.

This report should come as no surprise, as Pierre-Paul is nowhere near the player that he was in 2015 as 2014, but is still looking to get paid a hefty sum. The Giants are unlikely to give Pierre-Paul a massive contract extension, but if he meets a cold market and his price drops expect the Giants to get back into the bidding for Pierre-Paul.

Despite having a boatload of cap space, the Giants do not seem willing to spend a large portion of it one Pierre-Paul at this time.
