Brooklyn Nets Rumors: With a new GM in Sean Marks in place, could the Nets now seriously consider trading power forward Thaddeus Young?

The Brooklyn Nets have their general manager now in place, as they hired Sean Marks away from the San Antonio Spurs earlier in the day. With someone now ready to lead the front office, the Nets could be open for business on the trade front. It’s a good thing, because Thaddeus Young has begun to garner some serious interest on the trade market.

There have been rumors swirling for some time now around Young, as a number of teams are looking to upgrade the power forward position prior to the 3 PM ET deadline to make that playoff push.

The Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors were both originally rumored to be interested, but the Pistons landed Donatas Motiejunas from the Houston Rockets so they are no longer in need of a power forward.

But, the Raptors have not yet made a move, and are still in the market for a power forward upgrade. They have been rumored to be interested in Young for over a week now, but they are not alone in their pursuit for the Nets’ blue collar power forward.

According to Yahoo! Sports Senior Writer Chris Mannix, the Boston Celtics are also interested in Young and have gauged Marks’ interest in moving him. Mannix believes that there are likely more teams interested that have yet to be named, as Young is an appealing player to a number of teams.

What makes Young so appealing? For starters, he is a productive player. Despite the Nets having a miserable season, Young has been productive throughout the whole season, averaging 15.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

He is a versatile player that can defend multiple positions on the court and has been a durable, consistent producer throughout his NBA career.

In addition to his production on the court, Young also has a very favorable contract. With the salary cap set to rise, Young’s four-year, $54 million deal that he signed this past offseason will be even more tolerable than it already was. With an annual salary averaging $13.5 million, Young has a very palatable contract for teams to acquire.

Despite being on the job for merely a few hours, Marks has a chance to really put his stamp on the franchise and start the rebuilding process by moving Young. If he can acquire a young player and or draft picks for Young, it will be difficult for him to turn down the deal as the Nets could use all the assets they can get to jumpstart their rebuilding efforts, even if it is something owner Mikhal Prokhorov is currently opposed to doing.
