New York Jets: 2016 Seven-Round Mock Draft 1.0
By Nick Ziegler
Fourth-Round: Yannick Ngakoue
As mentioned before, the Jets could use youth and depth at the outside linebacker position, and in the fourth round of this mock draft, they will be taking Yannick Ngakoue of the Maryland Terrapins.
The Terrapins aren’t known for producing many NFL players, but Ngakoue looks to be a very talented prospect after just three seasons in college.
Ngakoue will be entering the draft after his junior season, but he played very well in all three seasons at Maryland. In his freshman year as a reserve player, Ngakoue totaled two sacks and four tackles for loss.
He continued to improve in his sophomore season, as he totaled six sacks, 13.5 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. As a junior, Ngakoue once again improved, as he totaled 13 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss. Ngakoue is listed at 6’2”, 255lbs, which makes his ability to play as a down lineman unlikely at the next level.
Ngakoue will be another hybrid the Jets can use at outside linebacker to hopefully get some pressure on the quarterback. As the Denver Broncos showed this postseason, getting pressure on elite quarterbacks is still the best recipe to defeat them, and the NFL is a copycat league.
