Jordan Farmar, Free Agent

Phil Jackson has had a penchant for bringing people and players he has a relationship with to the Knicks with him. The coaching staff has plenty of Jackson disciples, while the roster also has some players with ties to Jackson from his time as the head coach with the Los Angeles Lakers. Well, why not add another one of his former players?

Point guard Jordan Farmar was playing in Europe this season, but a little more than a month ago was let go by Maccabi Tel Aviv, who signed Gal Mekel in his place. Without a job, David Pick said that Farmar wants back into the NBA; could he find a place back in the NBA with the Knicks?

Farmar has experience with Jackson, spending the first four season of his NBA career with the Lakers, coming off the bench for the title teams in 2009 and 2010. He obviously has experience running the offense that Jackson wants the Knicks to run, which would give him a leg up on other free agents or possible trade targets for the Knicks.

Farmar is a career 37.4 percent shooter from deep, which would greatly help the Knicks. His experience in the offense would also help immensely, as he could help teach his teammates the nuances of a complicated system, much like why Sasha Vujacic was signed. Farmar may bring more to the court for the Knicks though, as Vujacic has not impressed while on the court this season.

Farmar is probably a long shot to sign with the Knicks, but if Jackson is going to dip into the free agent pool to fill the last roster spot, he would probably give consideration to a player that he is familiar with and knows well.
