Another point guard that curiously popped up on the trade market in recent weeks is the Hawks’ starting point guard Jeff Teague. There have been rumors swirling that the Hawks are looking to shake things up, but not for a rebuild, just a retooling of reloading. Along with Al Horford and Kyle Korver, Teague has been the center of those trade rumors.

The Knicks are one of the teams that had supposedly talked to the Hawks when this rumor first came about. The Knicks and Hawks have a relationship on the trade front already, as they completed a draft day deal last June, as Tim Hardaway Jr. was sent to Atlanta with the draft rights to Jerian Grant coming back to the Knicks. Could they work out a deal again?

The Knicks certainly hope so, as Teague would greatly improve their point guard situation. Teague’s strength may be the pick-and-roll, which the Knicks do not use much of, but he would fit into the Triangle Offense as well. He is a strong spot-up shooter and can get into the paint at will, something that the Knicks could really use.

He does not have great size, so he can struggle defensively sometimes, but anything at this point would be an upgrade for the Knicks in that department over the slow-footed Calderon. He also makes up for his shortcomings defensively with his performance on the offensive side of the ball.

The question for the Knicks though is do they have what it would take to pull off a deal? The answer is probably no, as they do not have many assets to dangle that would fulfil the sky-high asking price the Hawks have. The Knicks also cannot compete with an Orlando Magic offer that may have Victor Oladipo and or Tobias Harris, but you can be sure Phil Jackson will at least check into the availability of Teague to see if something can be worked out.
