Quarterback

If you throw away that three interception game in the season finale, Ryan Fitzpatrick deserves a new contract as long as it makes sense for both he and the Jets.

It’ll be difficult for Fitzpatrick to repeat the year he had in 2015, but his chemistry with Marshall, Decker and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey is too good to break up. The alternative is Geno Smith. And both the front office and the fans can agree that’s just  a disaster waiting to happen.

“We really would like to get Ryan back in the fold, Todd [Bowles] has said that. Myself, the rest of the organization feels very strongly about this. I think it’s a good situation for all of us. We just have to go through this process and hopefully we can come to an agreement where it’s fair and everyone’s happy with it.”- Mike Maccagnan

As long as he doesn’t make crazy demands, and is looking for a contract in the $10 million to $12 million range (annually) Fitzpatrick should be back in New York.

Fitzpatrick set a franchise record with 31 touchdown passes in his first year with the team. He had passer rating of 88 and the market for free-agent quarterbacks is thin this off season, so Fitzpatrick is likely to hear from several suitors.

The main objective this off season? Making a good team into a better team. An explosive running back, a competent tight end and two linebackers (inside and outside) are on Maccagnan’s radar. We just have to wait and see if the 2015 executive of the year has some more tricks up his sleeve.
