Recent New York Mets news involves one of their young prospects in their minor league system, who has been suspending for 80 games.

Third baseman Eudor Garcia has been suspended for 80 games for testing positive for bumetanide and furosemide, which are both banned substances.

Garcia was drafted by the Mets in the fourth round of the 2014 June Amateur Draft from El Paso Community College. In 2014, Garcia played in 55 games for the Kingsport Mets, and he totaled a .262 batting average with two home runs and 28 RBIs.

Last season, Garcia played in Single-A Savanna and totaled a .296 batting average, nine home runs, 59 RBIs, and 23 doubles in 105 games.

According to MLB.com, Garcia is currently ranked as the Mets’ 20th best prospect in their minor league system. The 21-year-old played very well in Single-A last season, and news of his suspension certainly is a blow to his development as a player.

Garcia is proving to be a good hitter at the minor league level, but he certainly can use as much time as possible at third base to improve as a fielder. In 42 games in 2014, Garcia committed 12 errors as a third baseman. He did improve at Single-A, as in 2015, he also totaled 12 errors, but it was in 83 games. Garcia had a shot to be called up to at least Double-A this season, but the suspension will likely keep him in Single-A for the 2016 season.

The future is still bright for Garcia, who despite the mistake, has the opportunity to reflect and grow as a baseball player still.
