The New York Giants were able to keep their playoff hopes alive on Monday Night Football, defeating the Miami Dolphins 31-24 at Sun Life Stadium. This was a big game for the Giants, as the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles both won, meaning the Giants needed a victory to keep pace.

That is exactly what they got, as the Giants were finally able to play a full game. They didn’t blow a late game lead, instead putting together a strong drive and successfully killing the last 4:39 seconds of the game. If they had done that two or three more times earlier in the season, the Giants would be wrapping up an NFC East division title; instead they have four losses in games they were leading in the final minute of, and are in a three-way tie with the Redskins and Eagles.

With the victory the Giants moved to 6-7 on the season, keeping their playoff hopes alive. At the same time, they may have ended the ones of the Dolphins. The Dolphins also needed this game badly if they wanted to keep their playoff hopes alive, but with a loss they dropped to 5-8, effectively ending their season. They will now need to win out with the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers not winning again throughout the remainder of the season; something unlikely to happen when looking at their schedule.

It was nice to see the Giants finally put together a strong effort throughout, as they picked up timely plays on both sides of the ball and picked up a very important win. They ended their three-game losing streak in the process, picking up their first win since Week 9 over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Giants will now look to ride the momentum from this win against arguably their stiffest test of the season when they face off with the undefeated the Carolina Panthers.

Before we get to covering that game though, let’s take a more in depth look at the Giants victory over the Dolphins on Monday Night Football in Week 14.
