Key Match-ups.

Giants’ CB vs Jarvis Landry

Last week, Giants cornerbacks Domonique Rodgers-Cromartie and Prince Amukamara struggled mightily against Jets WRs Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. They combined for 20 receptions for 232 yards and a touchdown.

More from Empire Writes Back

Both Rogers-Cromartie and Amukamara have a tall-task ahead of them as the next receiver they look to slow down is Jarvis Landry. Landry, in his second season of his NFL career, is coming off one the worst games since breaking into the league as one of the best receiver’s college football had to offer. Landry only had two catches for five yards against the Baltimore Ravens, coming off a Week 12 performance which included a stat line of 13 catches and 165 yards.

Against a porous Giants secondary, it’s almost guaranteed that the better Landry will come out. But if the Giants can somehow contain his explosiveness, Miami could be in some big trouble.

WR Odell Beckham JR vs CB Brent Grimes

Grimes had a horrible performance two weeks ago trying to defend Jets WR Brandon Marshall, as Marshall racked up 131 yards and two touchdowns. You might see a similar stat line as Odell Beckham Jr. is next in line. Beckham is going for his sixth straight 100 yard game and has six touchdowns in those contests.

Giant’s defensive line vs. Dolphins offensive line

Defensive ends Jason Pierre-Paul and Robert Ayers saw extended time in last week’s contest vs. the Jets and the results were impressive. Ayers and JPP combined for 18 quarterback pressures and they sacked Ryan Fitzpatrick three times.

Pierre-Paul was the most impressive, though. His first step was explosive and he was constantly tearing through the left side of the offensive line, and will look to do the same against Miami’s left tackle Brandon Albert.

The Dolphins’ line is ranked 25th in the NFL in pass protection, having given up 34 sacks. But they are significantly better when it comes to run blocking (17th overall).

Lamar Miller vs Giants’ Linebackers

Dolphin’s running back Lamar Miller has established himself as a weapon for Miami this year. On the flip side, the Giants have struggled to bring opposing running backs to a halt. Miller is averaging 4.9 yards per carry and the Giants absolutely need to take Miller out of the equation as a runner. Miami is undefeated when he gets 20 or more carries.

A major part of the game plan includes the performance of Devon Kennard. Kennard is arguably the Giants’ best linebacker and the defense is sounder when he’s the defensive captain. Kennard missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury.
