News Flash: the NFC East is down right awful.
And after the Cowboys beat the Redskins last week on Monday night, Giants’ Head Coach Tom Coughlin was jumping for joy over the fact that the NFC East is still wide open.
Literally, jumping for joy. He was asked how it felt to see Dallas beat Washington and the 69-year old responded by doing jumping jacks during his Thursday news conference.
“I’ve said many times before, we have to take care of our business, but to be in a circumstance when we are in the hunt is a good and exciting thing and I think the players realize that.”- Tom Coughlin
The most frustrating thing about the 2015 Giants is that it seems as if no one in that lowly division wants to win it, division, but they haven’t been able to capitalize on that opportunity. The enthusiasm is funny, Tom Coughlin, but jumping jacks won’t fix the problems with your team.
If you remember correctly, all the 2007 and 2011 New York Giants needed was a chance to dance, and boy did they dance. They were written off all of 2007 and shut their critics up when they made it into the NFC playoffs as a wild card team, and took down the undefeated New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. In 2011, they took advantage of a weak (strong compared to 2015) NFC East and snuck into the playoffs at 9-7 en route to their fourth Super Bowl title in franchise history.
Do I think they will do it this time around? Not a chance. The potential three-way tie atop the NFC East is truly a disgrace to football, as the division winner will likely be a one and done team. But, for the Giants to be in a circumstance when they are in the hunt is exciting and as history will tell you, an opportunity is all they need.
Staggering stat: If every Giants game ended 75 seconds earlier, they would own a 10-2 record.
