Daniel Murphy of the New York Mets has emerged as one of the premier hitters in the 2016 MLB Free Agency class.

In the 2015 postseason, Murphy went on a ridiculous tear that opened the eyes of everyone in the majors. On the Mets’ run to the World Series, Murphy hit a home run in six straight games against some of the leagues’ best pitchers. Murphy was able to hit home runs against Zack Greinke, Clayton Kershaw, Jon Lester, and Jake Arrieta on his way to one of the best postseasons in recent history.

Besides the great postseason run by Murphy and the Mets, he has also made a name for himself as a very professional hitter since being called up by the Mets. In his seven seasons with the Mets, Murphy has totaled a .288 batting average, 228 doubles, 62 home runs, and 402 RBIs.

Murphy has taken a lot of criticism in New York for his shaky defensive play at times, but in 2015 he was a very versatile player for the Mets. With injuries to Lucas Duda and David Wright during the season, Murphy played at both first and third base in addition to his normal starting position of second base. Murphy’s ability to play multiple positions in the infield makes his mistakes on defense ones that you can live with.

Many believe that Murphy is best-suited to move to the American League where he can be a designated hitter, and there are a few AL teams that could certainly use his services.

It seems unlikely that Murphy will be returning to the Mets in the 2016 season, but he will certainly draw the interest of many teams in baseball.

Here are five teams that are possible destinations for Murphy in the 2016 season.
