After the record setting game he had last week, Eli Manning came back down to earth against the Buccaneers. He completed 26-of-40 for 213 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He opened the game with an interception on the first play, which got the Giants off on the wrong foot but they were able to bounce back after. His second interception was a bad throw targeting Odell Beckham Jr., as Alterraun Verner jumped the pass and made the play.
It was a relatively easy play for Verner to make, as Manning was locking onto Beckham Jr. most of the afternoon, especially on third down. Beckham Jr. had beaten the Bucs for first down receptions on that drive previously, so Verner didn’t let it happen again.
Beckham Jr. was targeted a whopping 17 times on the afternoon, which is encouraging to see as the Giants sometimes seem to forget he is on the field in the second half. That was not the case this week, as Beckham Jr. got all the targets he could handle. He caught nine of them for 105 yards.
Rueben Randle and Shane Vereen had the touchdown receptions, as both had solid games as supporting players to Beckham Jr.’s starring role. Both players caught all their targets, as Randle went for five catches and 40 yards, while Vereen went for four and 29.
Manning completed passes to nine different receivers, but was a little bit off his game at times as the weather seemed to affect him negatively at times.
