New York Mets Fall Behind Kansas City Royals In 12th Inning

The New York Mets had some poor fielding that forced them into extra innings against the Kansas City Royals. They will now need a miracle of their own in the bottom of the 12th inning, as the Royals were able to take the lead.

Addison Reed entered the game, replacing Jon Niese but immediately got into trouble. Salvador Perez led off the inning with a bloop single down the right field line. He was pinch ran for by the speedster Jerrod Dyson, who immediately stole second base on the third pitch of the at-bat. With Dyson on second, Alex Gordon made a productive out, moving Dyson over to third.

Next up was the seldom used Christian Colon, who had only 107 at-bats during the regular season and one during the postseason. He looked like a seasoned veteran at the plate, as he delivered the biggest hit of the World Series thus far, drilling a single into left field that scored Dyson and put the Royals up 3-2.

Colon went 41 days in between RBI, and this one couldn’t have come at a batter time for the Royals, who picked up their first lead of the game. It was a junk pitch from Reed, who was visibly shaken by Dyson on base. It caused him to lose focus on Colon at the plate and he delivered big time.

The Royals would not stop there though, as they would continue piling on off Reed and the Mets. Paulo Orlando hit a ground ball to Daniel Murphy, who would commit yet another error and boot the grounder. Once again the Mets saw first hand why you cannot give multiple chances to an opportunistic team such as the Royals, as they made the Mets pay for their mistakes again.

Alcides Escobar delivered his second big hit of the World Series, as he knocked an RBI double down the left field line, scoring the original hero Colon and putting Orlando at third base.

After issuing an intentional walk to Ben Zobrist, Reed was mercifully relieved of his duties and removed from the game. Things would not get any better for the Mets though.

Bartolo Colon would enter the game out of the bullpen with the bases loaded, and they were quickly cleared. Lorenzo Cain wasted no time in building the lead, as he knocked a bases clearing, RBI double into left centerfield to give the Royals a commanding 7-2 lead.

The Mets are now facing a monumental hill to climb, as the Royals have once again seemingly outlasted the Mets on the back on their bullpen.
