Mets vs. Royals World Series Game 4 Preview, TV Schedule, Stream and Radio

The New York Mets will be looking to tie the World Series up at two games apiece tonight, as they host the Kansas City Royals in Game 4 at Citi Field. The Mets will have left-handed rookie Steven Matz taking the mound, and he will opposed by right-handed veteran Chris Young.

Young is someone the Mets are familiar with because he pitched for the team in 2011 and 2012; he also has appeared in the World Series already. Young came out of the bullpen in the 14 inning Game 1, throwing three shutout innings and earning the win. The Mets will hope for better success against Young, who is intimidating in stature but doesn’t throw harder than 90 MPH.

Opposing him will be Matz. Matz had a great start to win the NLCS against the Chicago Cubs, allowing one run through 4 2/3 innings. He struggled a little big against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS though, throwing five innings and allowing five hits.

It will be interesting to see if he can get any swing and misses out of a Royals lineup that has been relatively successful against the Mets’ power starting pitching arms. Noah Syndergaard was able to get things going after a rocky first two innings, but if not for Michael Conforto throwing Alex Gordon out at third base, we could be talking about the Mets staving off elimination tonight, not trying to tie the series at 2-2.

Will the Mets offense be able to sustain the success they had in Game 3? They were able to plate nine runs against the Royals after being held in check in Kansas City. The Mets offense hasn’t responded well after offensive breakouts this postseason though, as they followed up a 13 run explosion against the Dodgers with only four in the next two games, and eight against the Cubs with the duds in Kansas City.

Who will step up for the Mets though? Lucas Duda, David Wright and Juan Lagares are the only players hitting over .250 at the plate, as Yoenis Cespedes seems to be feeling the effects of his shoulder injury, and Daniel Murphy left his bat in NLCS in Chicago.

The Royals, on the other hand, have six players batting .250 or higher, as their attacking philosophy at the plate and deep lineup has thus far paid dividends.  Which of those lineups will be able to get the job done in Game 4? It is just one of many things to keep an eye on.
