Mets vs. Royals World Series Game 4: Live Score, Highlights, and Analysis

The New York Mets suffered a very difficult loss in Game 4 of the 2015 World Series, as late-inning collapse by New York led to the loss

Things started out well in the exciting Game 4 of the World Series, but they Mets ultimately dug themselves into a big hole in the series.

The Royals were able to get the leadoff runner on in the first inning, but an interference call on Ben Zobrist on a stolen base attempt by Alcides Escobar hurt the Royals’ chances in the inning.

In the bottom of the first inning, Daniel Murphy would be robbed of a hit on a diving play by Alex Rios in right field. Matz would look good once again in the top of the second inning, as besides a Salvador Perez single, the Royals didn’t threaten much.

Young would continue to pitch well in his second appearance of the World Series, as he put the Mets down in order in the second frame. Despite a deep fly ball by Rios in the third inning, the Royals were unable to get anything going, as Matz was able to work a quick inning against the bottom part of the order.

Michael Conforto put the Mets on the board with a long solo home run to right field off of Young, as the Mets’ faith in him paid off in Game 4 early. A big blunder by Rios in right field on a sac-fly by Curtis Granderson allowed Wilmer Flores to score the second run of the game for the Mets, as Rios hesitated thinking there were two outs.

After getting the lead, Matz had an important shutdown inning for the Mets in the top of the fourth inning. Young was able to bounce back with a strong fourth inning after allowing two runs in the third. The Royals were able to get to Matz in the fifth inning, as a single by Perez was booted by Yoenis Cespedes in left field allowing him to go to second base. An RBI single by Alex Gordon would allow Perez to score, and give the Royals there first run of the game. The Royals did burn their best pinch-hitter in the inning, as Kendrys Morales singled in the inning after a Rios fly out. Conforto was able to his his second home run of the game in the fifth inning off the left-handed Danny Duffy. The home run gave the Mets a 3-1 lead after Matz allowed one in the fifth inning.

The Royals answered right back in the sixth inning after the Conforto home run, as Ben Zobrist hit another double, and then Lorenzo Cain knocked him in with an RBI single. The RBI by Cain also knocked Matz from the game, as Terry Collins turned to Jonathon Niese.

After Matz was taken out, Niese and Bartolo Colon were able to keep the Royals from scoring anymore runs, as a huge strikeout for Colon and Perez ended the inning.

In the sixth inning, Luke Hochevar was able to work an easy inning against the Mets to keep it a one-run game heading into the seventh. In the top of the seventh inning, Reed worked a clean frame for the Mets, as his solid postseason continued. In the seventh inning, the Royals were finally able to get Conforto out, as Ryan Madson struck him out to end the inning.

The Mets would turn to Tyler Clippard in the eighth inning, but two walks in the inning would lead to Jeurys Familia being called upon once again in an eighth inning. An error on a ground ball by Murphy would allow the tying run to score, and then a RBI single by Mike Moustakas gave the Royals a one-run lead in the eighth inning.

Perez would extend the Royals’ lead with an RBI single to right field, as the Royals struck the Mets for three runs in the eighth inning. Arested Wade Davis worked a clean inning for the Royals in the bottom of the eighth inning to keep it a two-run game.

The Mets would get the go-ahead run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, but a line out by Lucas Duda resulted in a double play on an awful base-running blunder by Cespedes.
