After almost a week of rest, the New York Mets are back at it, this time in the World Series against the Kansas City Royals. This is the first time the Mets are in the World Series since 2000, while the Royals will be making their second straight trip after facing off with the San Francisco Giants in 2014.
To get here, the Mets had to face off with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs. They barely escaped the Dodgers, needing all five games to win that series. It was a total 180 against the Cubs though, as the Mets disposed of them rather easily in a four-game sweep. By now, everyone has heard of the exploits of Daniel Murphy, who has earned himself a big paycheck in the offseason leading the Mets offense to where they are now.

Things were not as easy for the Royals, who had to take on the upstart Houston Astros in the ALDS. They defeated them in five games, as Johnny Cueto finally looked like the ace they had traded for at the MLB Trade Deadline. In the ALCS, the Royals had to go up against the high powered Toronto Blue Jays, but were able to defeat them in six games. We saw how dangerous the Blue Jays bats could be, but also saw how great the pitching could be for the Royals.
Pitching once again will be a big story in the World Series, as the Mets have a deep, talented starting rotation full of young arms in their first postseason. The Royals starting rotation, while not as recognizable in name, has some experience in this spot and much more in the playoffs in general after last season’s surprise run to the World Series; while the Mets starters are all making their first appearances in the playoffs, every pitcher that has started a game for the Royals this postseason has made at least one start in the playoffs prior to this season.
This will be a fun series for baseball fans to watch, as it has two teams that have fought to get here. The Mets and Royals both had lengthy roads to building the contenders they have now, and have earned the spots in the World Series.
So who will win? You will have to read through our slideshow to find out. Check out our bold predictions for the World Series that begins tonight with the Mets traveling to Kauffman Stadium to take on the Royals.
