In their first meeting this season, Jason Witten really hurt the Giants. He took advantage of the inexperienced Uani Unga, who was making his first appearance in a regular season NFL game, working the middle of the field with ease along with Lance Dunbar.
Witten finished the game with eight receptions for 60 yards and two touchdowns. This time around though, Witten will be without Tony Romo throwing him passes, as Cassel will be making his first career start with the Cowboys.
It really doesn’t matter who is throwing passes to Witten though, as he is a threat even at 33 years of age. The Giants have struggled defending the pass all season, giving up the most yards per game in the NFL. While Cassel is obviously limited and not as dangerous as Romo, using Witten as a safety valve will be something he does a lot and it can hurt the Giants.
Witten is the most experienced target that Cassel will have at his disposal, and expect him to use him early and often. Witten seems to always find a way to hurt the Giants, and he will be given plenty of opportunities to do that again this time around. Expect him to lead the Cowboys in targets by a wide margin.
