We mentioned in the last slide that the Giants defense is getting healthier, and one of those players that is coming back is Robert Ayers. This will be the first time Ayers is taking the field since Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons, and the Giants will welcome him back with open arms.

Coming into the season, Ayers was the only sure thing along the defensive line for the Giants at defensive end. With Jason Pierre-Paul’s Fourth of July incident clouding his future with the team, Ayers was locked into a starting spot in the Giants defensive end rotation. He is the most accomplished pass rusher on the team, and is strong against the run, so his return to the field will help a defensive line that has been ravaged by injury all season.

While the Giants pass rush in part has been hurt because of the injuries, there wasn’t much there to begin with. Getting Ayers back into the fold will help that pass rush, as the Giants have been forced to use defensive tackles such as Cullen Jenkins at defensive end in recent weeks because of injury.

Ayers will not only bring production to the position, but put players back into the spots they were meant to play. You can count on Ayers being pumped up to get back on the field, and it being against the Giants rival in the Cowboys will only add to that.

Keep an eye on how much he plays, as the Giants will probably ease him back into a role. But, if they need him to pull out a victory, it will be interesting to see if they put that plan aside to try and get a win.
