Coaching Staff Grade: C+

The players are responsible for the outcome at the end of the day, but the coaching staff needs to put them in a position to succeed. Only one unit is being given that chance right now, and it is the defense under Steve Spagnuolo.

Spagnuolo’s unit has been hit hard by injuries all season, and tonight was no difference. Prince Amukamara and Trumaine McBride joined Devon Kennard and Robert Ayers on the sidelines, leaving him without three starters and his slot cornerback. It didn’t slow him down though, as Spagnuolo’s defense still forced four turnovers. Even if two were gifts, they still made the play to get the ball back to the offense. His performance with the defense is the only saving grace for the coaching staff.

Unfortunately, the offense was unable to do anything with those gifts. They didn’t score any points off the Eagles turnovers, while the Eagles seemed to take advantage of every miscue the Giants made. Ben McAdoo has to change something in the gameplan to get this running game going. Yes the loss of Daniel Fells hurts, but he has missed every game but Week 1 and Week 3, so they have had time to try and make up for that loss.

Also, he didn’t draw up anything to give Marshall Newhouse much help, who was struggling with Connor Barwin all night. It caused Manning to be under constant pressure and threw the Giants offense out of sync. Sure McAdoo cannot do anything about Donnell having the ball ripped out of his hand or Manning making a throw late, but he has to do something to put this offense in better position to succeed. Outside Odell Beckham Jr., this offense seems to have nothing going for it.

More from Empire Writes Back

Tom Coughlin will assuredly be mad at how his team played tonight overall. They committed a ton of penalties and the three turnovers were all avoidable with a little better execution. He will have a lot of work to do in practice this week, and hopefully some of the injured players get back onto the field as the Giants could really use their starters back, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
