The Eagles biggest free agent signing this offseason was bringing in DeMarco Murray from the rival Dallas Cowboys. He was expected to seamlessly replace LeSean McCoy, who was traded to the Buffalo Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso. Things have not yet gone as expected for Murray and the Eagles, who have struggled to get a running game going all season.

Murray has already missed one game this season because of injury, but even when he is on the field he hasn’t been very productive. He has lead the team with 49 carries, but trails Ryan Mathews in yardage and trails both him and Darren Sproles in yards per carry. Murray has gained only 130 yards on those 49 carries, while Mathews has 205 on 41 and Sproles has 107 on 21.

Those struggles will continue against the Giants. Despite having success against the Giants in his career, and running for 249 yards and one touchdown against them last season, Murray does not look like the same player this season with the couples. Add to that the Giants’ success defending the run this season, and Murray is looking at one more week of struggles.

While the Giants defense showed some chinks in the armor last week against the 49ers, they will get back on track against the Cowboys. Murray will be held in check, while his backfield mates outproduce him once again. Will this be the last straw for the Eagles until they begin giving touches based on performance and not salary numbers?
