The New York Mets will be looking to take a controlling 2-0 lead in their National League Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs Sunday night. The Mets were able to knock off Jon Lester and the Cubs in Game 1 Saturday night behind a strong Matt Harvey performance on the mound and Daniel Murphy at the plate.

Tonight’s game will feature yet another great matchup on the mound, as Noah Syndergaard will toe the rubber for the Mets against potential Cy Young award winner Jake Arrieta.

More from New York Mets

Arrieta has been outstanding for the Cubs in the second half of the season. He threw a complete game shutout against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the one-game Wild Card, and defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS. He was not as sharp against the Cardinals as he had been throughout the second half of the season, giving up four runs in 5 2/3 innings, but he cannot be taken lightly.

It will be a tall task for the Mets to get to Arrieta, but they have shown during the 2015 postseason that no matter who is on the mound, they will battle to the very end. The Mets already have victories this postseason over fellow Cy Young candidates Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke of the Los Angeles Dodgers, so they will be ready for Arrieta.

As for Syndergaard, he will be making his second career start against the Cubs. Syndergaard made his MLB debut against the Cubs at Wrigley Field in June, giving up three runs in 5 1/3 innings. But, this time around, he will be getting to pitch against them at Citi Field, where he has performed much better. Syndergaard was shaky in his first career start, getting the lose in the controversial Chase Utley “slide” game, but shut down the Dodgers when he came out of the bullpen in Game 5 for his one inning of work. The Mets are hoping they see more of that Game 5 Syndergaard.

The game will once again be on TBS with Ernie Johnson being joined in the booth by Ron Darling and Cal Ripken Jr. Want to know where to find Game 2? We have you covered with all the television, radio and streaming information you’ll need.
