It is nice to see the Giants be able to count on their special teams week in and week out. Despite injuries forcing them to change some of the assignments on the unit, the Giants special teams still did their job throughout the night.

Once again Josh Brown did his job in the kicking department. He continued his perfect season on field goal attempts, knocking through all three of his chances from 22, 41 and 24 yards. He also made all three of his extra points for a very strong kicking night. He also limited the 49ers chances on kick returns, as they had only one for 22 yards. The coverage stats will look even better though, as his squib kick after the go-ahead touchdown was returned three yards by Bruce Miller before he realized he should be taking a knee instead.

Brad Wing wasn’t needed very much tonight, as he was called on only twice to punt. But, he did his job as well. He placed his first punt inside the 20-yard line, and then booted his second 55 yards. It was a well placed punt near the Giants sideline despite it being returned 16 yards by Hayne.

The Giants had solid performances returning the ball, as Vereen returned his two kickoffs for 44 yards and Harris returned three punts for 31 yards. The special teams continue to be a strong unit for the Giants as they are performing despite constant shakeups.
