The Giants were facing a very similar rushing attack this week against the 49ers as they faced last week against the Buffalo BIlls. But, unlike last week, the Giants were unable to have the same amount of success.

The 49ers weren’t running through the Giants like the sieve they were last season, but they had enough success that their offense got on track early and often. Carlos Hyde had a strong game, rushing 21 times for 93 yards and a touchdown. His bone crushing hit with Jon Beason on the first drive sent Beason to the sideline with a concussion and he missed the rest of the game.

Kaepernick didn’t have many, if any, run plays called for him, but he still managed to hurt the Giants a little bit scrambling. He took off three times, gaining 23 yards. Australian rugby player Jarryd Hayne picked up an important first down as well, taking two carries for nine yards.

All in all, the 49ers gained 124 yards on 27 carries for a 4.6 yards per carry average in the game. Like the passing defense, it was not encouraging to see the Giants defense allow a team that has been so bad get on track.

But, this unit gets a little bit of a pass this week. The 49ers want to run the ball as often as they can, which made it a tough matchup for the Giants who were without Devon Kennard, Robert Ayers, Jonathan Casillas and George Selvie before losing Beason on the first drive. That is a lot of production and playing time to replace, the Giants did the best they could. They’re hoping they can get some of them back though next week against a much stronger offense in the Eagles.
