Coaching Staff Grades: B

B is a fair grade for Tom Coughlin and his staff. They have had had their miscues this season, but what they have accomplished with this defense and the personnel at their disposal is pretty impressive. Steve Spagnuolo has done the best job he could do given their limitations and the results have been rather strong.

Offensively, Ben McAdoo could afford to get a little more aggressive. The offensive line is playing well, but the Giants aren’t taking many shots downfield. With a player such as Beckham Jr. you would think that they would, but the Giants have been working underneath more this season; Manning is averaging only 6.8 yards per attempt. That is something the Giants could afford to increase, as Manning is being careful with the ball and not making mistakes, so take some of the training wheels off.

Also, McAdoo needs to figure out how to get this run game going. It has been ugly at times, and his shotgun draw plays are not working; that is not where two of the three running backs succeed from. They need to get some power running going, and maybe give a shot to someone like Orleans Dwarka if the trio of Jennings, Williams and Vereen aren’t getting the job done. His play calling also will leave you scratching your head at times, but it hasn’t hurt the Giants yet.

Coughlin is known as a great motivator and it seems he is putting that to work again. With their backs against the wall and people already talking about changes in the offseason, the Giants have rebounded with two straight wins and look poised to go on a lengthy win streak to stake their claim in the NFC East.
