How will the New York Yankees lineup and pitching staff look when the postseason starts next week? Take a look at our prediction for who the Yankees will be placing on their lineup card when the playoffs get under way.
We knew this was coming for a while now. After the mid-August slump out of first place, the New York Yankees have never quite recovered. The magic number is now down to two for the Toronto Blue Jays, so at this point the American League East Title seems but a distant dream. That leaves the New York Yankee’s scheduled for the American League Wild Card Game next Tuesday, October 6th.
Now most Yankees fans might be disappointed by the fact we didn’t win the division once again this year, we can at least be happy we made the playoffs at all. In the last few years the Yankees have struggled and missed the playoffs several times. Now that’s not because they have not been playing well, it’s more a credit to how strong the AL East has finally become.

Additionally, Yankees fans should be grateful because we get almost a “warm up game” of sorts by being in the AL Wild Card Game. They get to play against a great team, while preparing and warming their bats up (tentatively) for the next round against the Kansas City Royals who made the World Series last year.
But enough about what could have been. Let’s instead take a look ahead at the AL Wild Card Game. First off, let’s discuss the opponent.
At this juncture, the Yankee’s American League Wild Card opponent will be whoever finished second in the AL West. It is still up for grabs between the Los Angeles Angels and the Houston Astros, with the Texas Rangers leading the division. All three teams have quality batters and pitchers. Therefore the Yankees will have to respond in kind, most likely by starting an ace pitcher, and by starting a lineup that is both dangerous offensively as it is defensively. Here are my predictions on the starting lineup I believe the Yankees will go with.
