27. Oakland Athletics (65-91) The Athletics look like a team that cannot wait for the season to end, as they have lost seven of their last eight games. The last week was especially rough against teams fighting for their playoff lives, as they lost all but once. But, when you have a team not in a playoff race you see nice stories like the one over the weekend against the Giants. Barry Zito fought all the way back to get on the mound after missing all of 2014 and faced off against his former teammate Tim Hudson. It was a bit of a let down on the field, but nonetheless a sight to see for anyone that was a fan of the two back in the early 2000€™s when they combined with Mark Mulder to be one of the best starting pitching trios in baseball.
26. Colorado Rockies (66-90) The Rockies pulled off an improbable series sweep over the weekend, taking out the Dodgers after getting swept by the Pirates earlier in the week. A big help in the sweep of the Dodgers was Nolan Arenado, who continues to mash in the middle of the Rockies lineup despite all of the losing. This weekend alone he had two home runs and nine RBI, raising his season totals to 41 and 126, both career highs. If the Rockies were more competitive, Arenado would be right in the thick of the MVP race as his numbers are outstanding this season despite the lack of success around him.
25. Milwaukee Brewers (66-90) The Brewers played a little bit of spoiler in the last week, as they split a weekend series with the Cardinals. They could have an opportunity to do that again in the final series of the season when they host the Cubs. One player that will not be helping them in that series is Ryan Braun, who was shut down for the season because of a back injury. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on his back to make sure he is healthy in 2016. Despite it being cut a week short, Braun had a solid bounce back year in 2015 with 25 home runs and 24 steals.
