Coaching Staff Grade: B+

While the Giants were able to pick up their first win of the season, there are still some things the coaching staff needs to clean up.

Offensively Ben McAdoo has to figure out how to get this run game going. Constantly running draws from the shotgun is not getting the job done. Also, why Andre Williams is used as the kill the clock guy is still confusing when you have Rashad Jennings at your disposal. His play calling also remains head scratching at times, as he constantly runs pass routes short of the first down marker on third downs.

Defensively, Steve Spagnuolo needs to try and manufacture pressure without bringing heavy blitzes. This is easier said than done as the Giants just do not possess pass rushers on their defensive line at this time, but he has to figure something out. Even when they bring a blitz they aren’t hitting home enough, which leaves the secondary out to dry and get picked apart. It happened multiple times on third-and-long against the Redskins and is something that needs to be addressed as the Giants cannot continue to allow teams to convert on third downs with the frequency they have thus far this season.

On special teams, the Giants need to get their hands team figure out. Those onside kicks were much more nerve racking than they should have been. Also, they had their first mishap on kick return coverage, something you know Tom Coughlin didn’t appreciate.

The Giants coaching staff will enjoy this win, but they will not have long to rest on their laurels. They will have to start preparing for a tough matchup in Western New York against Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills. You know what to expect in a matchup with a Rex Ryan led team; it is just up to Tom Coughlin and his staff to get the Giants prepared.
