9.) Frans Nielsen
One of the best players for the Islanders in the 2013-14 season was center Frans Nielsen. Two seasons ago, Nielsen totaled 58 points with 25 goals and 33 assists. It was a career-year for Nielsen in 2013-14, and that resulted in some higher expectations for last season.
While Nielsen was still fourth on the team in points last season, he totaled 15 fewer points. Last season, Nielsen totaled 43 points with 14 goals and 29 assists. Nielsen is one of the few veterans on the Islanders at 31-years-old, but he is a bit inconsistent. If Nielsen is playing well, the Islanders generally do as well with him anchoring lines behind John Tavares. It was a bit of a down year for Nielsen, but he was still a big part of their success
