In a continuing trend, another one of Garth Snow’s offseason moves had a huge positive impact on the Islanders last season. Goaltending was a problem for the Islanders in recent years, but last season the signing of Jaroslav Halak gave the Islanders a goalie that they desperately needed.

Last season, Halak totaled a 38-17-4 record, 2.43 GAA, .914 save percentage, and six shutouts. Halak’s strong season led to him earning his way into the Islanders’ record books. Billy Smith is one of the greatest goalies of all-time, but he saw two of his single season records broken by Halak.

Halak was able to break Smith’s records for most wins in a season with 38, and also most consecutive wins with 11. Halak did struggle at times late in the season for the Islanders, but he was a huge upgrade in the net compared to recent goalies for the Islanders.
