With Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie headline the Giants injured list for Week 3 with a concussion, someone has to step into the starting lineup. That person will more than likely be the much maligned Jayron Hosley.
Hosley, a third round pick out of Virginia Tech in 2012, was a surprise to many to make the team coming out of training camp. He was coming off a bad 2014 season, in which he was suspended for four games during, and looked like yet another draft pick bust for Jerry Reese. It will be tough to remove that label with one game, but Hosley stepping up and performing in place of Rodgers-Cromartie will definitely help that.
This will be the 10th start of his career for Hosley, who will start opposite of Prince Amukamara. The duo will catch a bit of a break with DeSean Jackson sidelined, but they will still have to account for Pierre Garcon and Ryan Grant. Grant. who Hosley will probably draw, is a strong route runner that lacks burst but gets the job done.
The Redskins are a run first team, but their receivers still need to be accounted for. Hosley struggled a bit against the Falcons last week, as Leonard Hankerson and Julio Jones looked unstoppable against the Giants secondary without Rodgers-Cromartie back there.
The Redskins don’t posses anyone as talented as Jones, but it will still be a test for Hosley who will be counted on to slow down the Redskins passing game. The Giants have been blitzing a lot as their defensive front has been unable to produce any pressure, so Hosley will have to step up more than likely without much help from his fellow defensive backs.
