27. Miami Marlins (64-86) The Marlins like playing the spoiler role, as they continued it this past week against the Mets, taking two out of three games this past week for the second time in September. Tony Koehler and Adam Conley both pitched strongly in the series, as the Mets thought they were getting off easy by missing Jose Fernandez. Unfortunately for the Mets, they are unable to do that against the Nationals, who the Marlins have lost to in series twice this month. It also looks like we will not see Giancarlo Stanton back this season, as his return keeps getting delayed, as he has been out since late June.

26. Oakland Athletics (64-86) It has been tough sledding for the Athletics recently, as they are winnless in their last six series. Danny Valencia has been a solid addition after being claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays, but the Athletics offense isn’t scary outside some strong performances against left-handed pitching. The pitching staff also remains spotty, as even the great Sonny Gray has fallen back to earth recently, with a 7.97 ERA in September. They will look to play spoiler this upcoming week, hosting the Rangers and Giants in their final homestand of the season.

25. Colorado Rockies (63-86) The Rockies had a decent road trip, going .500 and followed it up with a strong start to the homestand picking up a series win over the Padres. While the team isn’t winning much, and their problems are well documented, there is still some things worth watching on this team; namely third baseman Nolan Arenado. Arenado is already the best fielder at his position, but we have seen this season that he is arguably the best hitter and probably the cream of the crop at third base currently. He is not mentioned much in the NL MVP discussions, but maybe he should be with 39 home runs and an NL leading 114 RBI.
