Offense will be the calling card for both the Giants and Cowboys throughout the season. More specifically, it will be the passing game. Led by Eli Manning and Tony Romo, the Giants and Cowboys respectively should each tear things up through the air. Week 1 will be no exception, as the secondaries for both teams leave something to be desired and are ripe for the picking.
Manning really came on as the 2014 season wore on, as he became more acclimated with Ben McAdoo’s offense. He put up one of the strongest seasons of his career, completing a career-high 63.1 percent of his passes. He also cut his interceptions nearly in half, going from 27 in 2013 to only 14 last season, nine of which came in only three games.
Romo also had one of the strongest seasons of his career in 2014, as a new emphasis on the run game allowed him to be extremely efficient. He completed a career-high 69.9 percent of his passes with 34 touchdowns and only nine interceptions. It equaled the highest QBR and quarterback ratings in a season for Romo in his career, as he rode the running game to success.
In the meetings last season, both Manning and Romo saw a lot of success. Manning threw for 586 yards, six touchdowns and one interception, completing 68.4 percent of his passes. Not to be outdone, Romo also dominated to the tune of 554 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception, completing 71.4 percent of his passes.
There should be much of the same in Week 1 when these two faceoff for the 17th time in their careers in the regular season (the most head-to-head matchups of active quarterbacks). Both players will light up the Dallas sky with plenty of attempts and yards, as both secondaries are underwhelming. It will be a fun night for people who like to watch teams throw around the pigskin.
Prediction: Manning and Romo will combine for at least 575 passing yards
