The New York Giants will get their 2015 season underway against their NFC East division rival Dallas Cowboys. They will be facing off under the bright lights of Sunday Night Football for the second time in the last three seasons, and starting their seasons against each other for the third time in the last four.
The Giants and Cowboys are coming off of very opposite 2014 seasons. The Giants are trying to improve upon another lost season, as they went 6-10 and missed the playoffs for a third consecutive season. On the other hand, the Cowboys won the NFC East and won their first playoff game since 2009.
The Cowboys are favored in this game, and as much as it pains to say that is the right call. The Cowboys have defeated the Giants in four consecutive games, as this rivalry has been lopsided during the last two seasons. Both teams have explosive offenses and questionable defenses, which should make for an exciting game.
If the Giants are able to pick up an upset victory in Week 1, it would set a tone for the season that hasn’t been set 2010; the last time the Giants won a season opener. If the Giants are to break their playoff drought, breaking their opening day losing streak would be a nice step in the right direction.
The NFC East is a pretty wide open division, as the Giants and Cowboys, in addition to the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins all have question marks on their rosters. For either team that wins this game, they will have a leg up in the division race early on, and get their season off to the strong start everyone hopes for Opening Week.
Right now the Giants are underdogs, but you never know what can happen in Week 1 when teams are stilling working out the kinks from preseason. This game is bound to have a lot of fireworks throughout it, as divisional rivalries always have a little something extra.
Here are five bold predictions for Sunday night when the Giants and Cowboys open up their 2015 season.
