6. New York Yankees (76-59) The Yankees continue doing their job, as they picked up series wins over the Red Sox and Rays. That makes it seven wins in their last nine games, as the Yankees are doing everything they can to catch up to the Blue Jays. Luis Severino continues to roll, as the rookie has won three straight starts and has a sterling ERA of 2.04 in his six starts. But, the Yankees will have a big hole in their lineup with Mark Teixeira landing on the DL because his shin injury is just not healing as well as they had hoped. The Yankees will be relying on rookie Gregory Bird to replace him, but if Brian McCann and Alex Rodriguez continue producing like this, they will more than make up for the loss of Teixeira.

5. Los Angeles Dodgers (78-58) The Dodgers may have wrapped up the NL West this past week as they swept the Giants right out of Chavez Ravine. They followed that up by taking three of four in San Diego to start their road trip on the right foot. All in all, they now have a commanding 7.5 game lead over the Giants in the NL West race, and have passed the Mets for second seed and home field in the Divisional Round as well. Top hitting prospect Corey Seager was called up as well, giving the Dodgers production right from his first game in the majors.

4. Toronto Blue Jays (78-58) The Blue Jays just keep rolling. They haven’t been able to put any more distance between themselves and the Yankees, but as the team in the lead if they just keep winning they cannot be caught. That seems to be the strategy they are using, as they took care of business in both series this week after losing the opener in both. David Price suffered his first loss with the Blue Jays against the Indians to start the week, but bounced back to defeat the Orioles in convincing fashion Sunday afternoon. Troy Tulowitzki has yet to really get things going at the plate yet, but the Blue Jays are hoping that a move back to the middle of the order behind their murderer’s row of Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion can get him going.
