12. Los Angeles Angels (69-67) After dropping to .500 by getting swept by the Indians last weekend, the Angels bounced back well this past week. They took series from the Athletics and Rangers, keeping pace not only in the Wild Card race but AL West race as well. Taking two of three from the Rangers is a good start to a homestand that will now see visits from the Dodgers and Astros. If they can get pitching performances from Hector Santiago, Matt Shoemaker and Alex Heaney in the coming days as they did last week, the Angels should find themselves right in the thick of this playoff race.

11. Texas Rangers (71-64) The Rangers were able to dispose of the Padres to start the week, but came up short in a big series against the Angels. They are still in the driver’s seat of the Wild Card race, sitting in the second spot, but should have their eyes on the Astros and the AL West. If Derrick Holland is going to be as dominant as he has been since coming off the DL, they have a great shot at overtaking the Astros as he with Cole Hamels and Yovani Gallardo give the Rangers a strong trio. Now only if they could get better production from Martin Perez or Colby Lewis, and they would be in business. They need to finish their road trip in Seattle strong though, or else they could be dealing with a fourth team in the Mariners in that AL West.

10. Washington Nationals (71-65) The Nationals are riding an MLB tying best five-game winning streak currently as they are putting real pressure on the Mets. It took longer than they had hoped, but the offense is finally clicking, which is the biggest reason for their recent success. Bryce Harper continues hitting, but is now getting help from the likes of Jayson Werth, Ian Desmond and Anthony Rendon on a consistent basis. Ryan Zimmerman has also been on a tear, riding a 10-game hitting streak, five of which have been multi-hit efforts with six home runs and four doubles. The Nationals also lined their rotation up with Max Scherzer, Jordan Zimmermann and Stephen Strasburg going in what will be a make or break series against the Mets to start this upcoming week.
