6. Chicago Cubs (74-55) Jake Arrieta continues to build his Cy Young resume, as he tossed a no-hitter against the Dodgers on Sunday Night baseball. They did hit rough patch this week though, as they lost series to both the Giants and Dodgers; their main competition for the NL Wild Card behind the Pirates. With a comfortable 5.5 game lead over the Giants the Cubs aren’t in danger right away, but they cannot afford to go on many more four-game losing streaks if they hope to hold onto it.

5. Los Angeles Dodgers (72-57) While the Dodgers swept the Reds and took two out of three from the Cubs, the loss they suffered was an excruciating one. They were no-hit for the second time in as many weeks, as Jake Arrieta got them this time following Mike Fiers last week. It is basically the blueprint of the NL West teams right now; strikeout a lot and rely on the home run. The Dodgers though, unlike their NL West compadres, have a pitching staff that can keep them in games. That staff will be on display in a big series against the Giants, as the Dodgers top guns in Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw will take the mound as they look to bury the Giants’ playoff chances.

4. Toronto Blue Jays (74-56) This Blue Jays team is arguably the most dangerous team in baseball; their pitching staff may suffer from lapses sometimes, but this lineup will pick them up whenever they do. They are now up to 718 runs scored on the season, which is 91 more than the next closest team. They have three players on the team already with 30+ home runs on the season in Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion and it isn’t even September yet. That trio will all surpass 100 RBI as well if they do not run into the injury bug, which seems to be the only thing that will knock this team off the rails.
