6. Houston Astros (69-56) The Astros are riding high right now after sweeping the Dodgers over the weekend following a four-game split with the Rays to start the week. They could have easily lost many of the games they won this past week, but the young Astros are growing before our eyes as they handle their business in close games. Mike Fiers has also proven to be the more productive player the Astros received from the Astros at the trade deadline, as he threw a no-hitter against the Dodgers Friday. Carlos Gomez is still struggling to find his stroke in the AL, batting .188 in 21 games and 80 at-bats. George Springer is also inching closer to a comeback, as he is scheduled to take batting practice Monday.
5. Toronto Blue Jays (69-55) Look who is back atop the AL East. The Blue Jays continued their assault on opposing pitchers this past week, splitting a two game series with the pesky Phillies before destroying the Angels in Los Angeles. David Price continues to be worth what the Blue Jays gave up at the deadline, as he picked up his third win with the team to go with a 1.78 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. The Blue Jays will continue taking their show on the road against the Texas Rangers to start the week before hosting the Tigers. Josh Donaldson also continues to stake his claim as MVP, as he now has a ridiculous 34 home runs and 100 RBI already on the season with a slash line of .302/.370/.585.
4. Chicago Cubs (71-51) The Cubs are on absolute fire. They are riding another four-game winning streak and have been victorious in 16 of 20 August games. Outside of a slipup against the Tigers to start this week, the Cubs have been dominating all opponents this month. It has helped them keep pace with the equally dominant Pirates and Cardinals, putting a stranglehold on the second Wild Card spot, which they are now leading by a comfortable six game margin. They will have a chance to really put the Wild Card race to rest this week by traveling to take on the Dodgers and Giants on the road after a home makeup game against the Indians Monday. Luckily for them, and bad luck for the Dodgers and Giants, is Jake Arrieta will be taking the mound in both series.
