24. Oakland Athletics (54-71) The Athletics were able to snap their lengthy losing streak by sweeping a two-game series with the Dodgers, including one game that was started by Clayton Kershaw. But, they were quickly back to reality as they lost a weekend series to the Rays at home. The same problems still persist though, as the Athletics struggle to score on a consistent basis, putting a huge responsibility on a pitching staff that doesn’t have much to get you excited outside Sonny Gray.

23. Seattle Mariners (57-67) Are all of those innings and work carrying the Mariners catching up to Felix Hernandez? His swoon since the end of July has carried all throughout August, as he got crushed by the Red Sox last week and again by the White Sox this past week. That is just one of the problems the Mariners currently have on their hands, as their offense is still not producing more often than not. They finally rid themselves of Fernando Rodney this weekend though, as they designated the veteran for assignment.

22. Boston Red Sox (56-68) Even though the Red Sox had a strong week going 4-3, they could still come away feeling a little disappointed. It could have been a much better week had their bullpen, namely Junichi Tazawa, who imploded against the Royals Sunday afternoon blowing the safe. Travis Shaw and Jackie Bradley Jr. are still continuing to rake at the plate, while Joe Kelly put together his second strong outing in a row and finally looks to be getting things together. But, it is too little too late for a Red Sox team that is basically out of the playoff race 8.5 games behind in the AL Wild Card race.
